Black gems are always awarded, they are gained at time of defeating the ruin just like any other ruin. I fear you are trying to make accusations about something you yourself don't even understand.
There is a timed quest that appears once one destroys an Arch Ruin lvl 7 -- the quest to write a story in return for a t4 artifact. It is entirely optional, though I expect a story will come as there is still plenty of time remaining.

From time immemorial, in a certain ancient era, a dangerous enemy appeared, who in a moment had swallowed kingdoms, but also remained elusive and dormant for thousands of years. It is because of the treasures of the Arch-ruins that tempts many. Days, weeks, months passed, there were years ... the Arch-ruins always appeared somewhere far away. Songs and stories that came to us from distant and unattainable lands, sang their heroes who managed to free the land from the feral ancient and get themselves their incredible treasures. Naturally, often these stories were exaggerated, but how else, because who wants to hear an uninteresting story? Quellcrist was an excellent mentor to Glefanin and had told him many of these stories since he was a child.
Outside the castle window, in the heart of the magic forests, came a spring night. It was not much different from the past, yet somehow the sky with its numerous stars seemed even more attractive through the treetops. Around was incredibly beautiful and, more importantly for Glefanin, calm. It was his element. On nights like this he could relax his mind and really absorb the lessons Quellcrist would teach him.
“And what did we learn about Thysimides and the Mountain Giants, Glefanin?” Quellcrist said after a short puff from his pipe.
“We learn that the bigger they are the harder they fall,” Glefanin replied, reciting the story’s moral from memory.
“Excellent, my boy. Let you remember that until you are as old as I,” and Quellcrist let out a small chuckle which morphed into a cough that he covered with a small rag in his hand. “Now, for the next lesson – the story of the Fox and the Hedgehog.” He rocked back and forth gently while taking another puff from his pipe. Glefanin waited patiently as he lay on his back, his body upon a fallen silver-leaf tree and his arms crossed in a cushion for his head. From his position he could see upward through the forest’s canopy and to the constellation filled night sky. He loved the images he’d been taught to see and sometimes he imagined constellations of his own design, connecting the dots of stars in new ways. He glanced over to Quellcrist who was not looking at him, but stared off to the nearby pond in contemplation, probably preparing the story. Smiling, Glefanin turned his head back to the sky and listened.
“A Fox swimming across a rapid river,” Quellcrist began, “was carried by the force of the current into a very deep ravine, where he lay for a long time very much bruised, sick, and unable to move. A swarm of hungry blood-sucking flies settled upon him. A Hedgehog, passing by, saw his anguish and inquired if he should drive away the flies that were tormenting him.”
“Do hedgehogs ward away flies?” Glefanin interrupted.
“A spot of rain could ward away a fly for a time – but that is neither here nor there. Listen,” Quellcrist calmly replied. He continued, “‘By no means,’ replied the Fox; ‘pray do not molest them.’
‘How is this?’ said the Hedgehog; ‘do you not want to be rid of them?’
‘No,’ returned the Fox, ‘for these flies which you see are full of blood, and sting me but little, and if you rid me of these which are already satiated, others more hungry will come in their place, and will drink up all the blood I have left.’”
There was a pause and Quellcrist waited for Glefanin’s response. Glefanin thought to himself, this lesson is rather grim, but also very clever. If the fox was any less cunning he would find himself dead, but any less durable and he’d find himself in the same result.
“I understand, that’s a good lesson Quell, thank you.” Glefanin acknowledged. He yawned and decided he would end the lessons for the night and go to sleep. He rose, brushed himself off and made his way back to the castle with Quellcrist beside him. He fell asleep and dreamt of a constellation he’d not seen, a great tiger eating a dark red star. And nothing foreshadowed events that were steadily approaching.
* * *
Glefanin awoke to a roaring horn from the city guard. He roused himself quickly from bed and looked out the window to see townsfolk rushing about everywhere and guardsmen hurrying. He knew of no enemy rulers who would dare to attack his city, and the town circus was not in season. What could it be? A pounding knock sounded at his chamber door and he glance up to the horizon, still looking out the window. There he saw a strange red glow in the sky, but it too did not make sense to him. The sky this time of season should be a blue gray. He remembered his dream about the red star – and then his thoughts were interrupted again by the pounding on his chamber door. His elite guardsmen were there to inform him of the explorer reports of a terrible monster stronghold in the kingdom and threat of imminent attack. The spies had not been able to report exact numbers because the monsters were so enraged and numbered.
“We must prepare the city for a siege,” Glefanin began telling his soldiers. “Recall the villagers, barricade the doors, prepare the hot oil. Martial the troops and see what scrolls from the vault the wizards can recant –“
“No,” a voiced boomed and interrupted from the side of the hall, “that will not work.”
It was Quellcrist and he stood hunched over leaning on his cane, his pipe between his lips and puffing away at the ember.
“What do you mean?” Glefanin asked, confused. “We cannot just surrender—”
“—and that is why we will not surrender,” Quellcrist interrupted, “we will take the fight to the monster stronghold.” Several of the generals began to exchange worried looks and one of them spoke up,
“He has LOST HIS MIND, Glefanin.” The general said pointing an accusing finger at Quellcrist. “The safety of our people relies upon us and we throw it away because of a senile old fart?”
“Do not speak to Quell that way!” Glefanin scolded the general. “…but please Quell, explain it for us. What is the plan?”
“We must attack the stronghold and destroy the heart of the evil – I know this demon and she feeds on the lives taken in battle. Everyday monsters will spawn here and the hordes pouring out will never end. Deep in the ruin vault lies a mountain of black gems. If we defeat the demon, the power of the gems and the kingdom’s safety will be our reward.”
“Then we must ride at once,” and with a nod to his generals, Glefanin and the soldiers began to turn.
“But there is one more thing.” Quellcrist spoke. Glefanin was uncertain.
“What is that?” Glefanin inquired.
“I must come with you.” Quellcrist calmly puffed at his pipe.
“The battlefield is no place for you Quell! Your theories belong there, not your bones!” Glefanin protested.
“Only I know how to destroy the demon and it is with this…” Quellcrist held up a small metal amulet. It appeared to have hinges and a star shaped design. Quellcrist demonstrated the hinges, opening them and displaying within a deep red crystal.
* * *
The army engaged the monster horde, but it was almost as if the monsters were expecting it. From all sides an uncountable number of them seemed to press onto the elves assault. The ruin domain shook with the rumble of battle. Many fled in fear, dropped their weapons in enfeeblement, or were slain in vulnerability. Glefanin and his elite guard spearheaded a path towards the keep and they protected Quellcrist, escorting him within.
The inside of the keep was ominously tranquil compared to the ruin grounds. A large square hall and an arch way stood before them. The floor of the room seemed to be held above a pit, two chains attached to short pillars, one on the left and right in some gothic architecture. Then the demon appeared in a cloud of shadow and thorns flew from its hands slaying half of the elite troops. Glefanin and several others charged forth swinging their weapons, but a force field blasted them back. The demon laughed a sinister laugh and held its arm forward, palm towards them – then suddenly clenched into a fist. The slain troops rose and were animated under the demon’s control. The living guardsmen were forced to play defensively – the horror of fighting their slain comrades was too much. Meanwhile, Quellcrist was reciting and enchantment on the amulet and now he held it upwards, the hinges flipping open and bright streams of light webbed forth from the amulet. The light went in a chaotic pattern but when it passed through the animated warriors, they became purged and fell once again. Still holding the amulet upwards, Quellcrist began to recite another spell, but was cut short when a large blade ripped forth through his chest. The demon let out a malicious howl and began to laugh his sinister laugh again.
“Quellcrist!” Glefanin exclaimed. He watched in agony as his mentor was impaled upon the demon’s blade, blood began to pour from the old man’s mouth. Enraged, Glefanin charged forth again and his sword struck the demon’s neck, became lodged momentarily, and with a surge of fury strength he pushed forward and the blade cleaved off the demon’s head. Sobbing, Glefanin sat on the stone floor panting and was just going to see about Quellcrist when to his horror the demon’s head regrew. Just like that, the demon had been whole again – a deeper howl this time followed. The remaining guardsmen in the room fled in terror and alone sat Glefanin and Quellcrist’s body with the demon.
The streams of light from the amulet had not stopped. They fluttered around the room making it hard to see. One beam passed through Quellcrist’s body and hung there, and as more randomly passed through him they too became fused. The now singular beam pulsed and pulled Quellcrist’s soul from his body. Amazed, Glefanin was not sure whether to feel relief or sadness. The soul hovered for a brief moment, then faded. The demon shot more thorns towards Glefanin and he had to roll to the side, taking three of the spikes to his right arm. Swiftly, he snapped the spike tips off. The demon could not stop laughing and paused to howl again. There Glefanin was, sweat and blood drenching him, his face against a cold stone pillar, the one with a chain attached. The floor rocked as the demon cackled and Glefanin gazed up the chain as sweat fell into his eyes and blurred his vision – this was the end. The demon shot another volley of razor thorns at him and in his last attempt Glefanin maneuvered behind the short pillar as the spikes sunk into it causing the whole thing to fracture, one of the spikes even piercing through a bit. The floor shuddered. Gazing up again he saw the chain had been split and dangled loosely, holding on by only half a link. The bigger they are…Glefanin chuckled to himself…the harder…they…FALL! He threw his blade at the severed link and it cleaved apart releasing an entire side of the floor. The floor sank on one side and everything began to tumble into the dark pit below. The demon attempted to grab onto the archway, but was taken by surprise and also fell – enraged it shot thorns at Glefanin’s falling body through the shower of debris. The released side of the floor met the side of the chamber walls and on impact exploded into an avalanche of stones and dust. Glefanin landed in the dark pit with crack – if it was his shoulder or his armor he did not know. He rolled over and put his shield above him as the stones slammed on top.
The demon lay under a pile of rubble, alive, but stunned. It attempted to rise, but sank back and remained trying to recover itself. Glefanin’s shield had busted and he tossed it aside – he ached all over and now he was sure his shoulder had broken. The dust was everywhere and the floor covered in rubble made it hard to stand. The only source of light came from the hall above and somewhere in the rubble. Glefanin looked at the light from the rubble and cleared it – it was the amulet. Then as if no interval had passed between his death and that moment, Quellcrist’s soul appeared before Glefanin and communicated to him,
“Glefanin, I lied.”
“Quell! What do you mean? How? Where are you?” Glefanin was nearly hysterical.
“The demon,” Quellcrist began gravely, “cannot be defeated. Not by death.”
“Impossible! Then what will we do?” Glefanin was at a loss. The demon began to stir and red light pulsed from the rubble; he thought he could hear a small chuckle, but when he listened closer he could not.
“Glefanin, my body has been destroyed, but my soul remains; what is left of it anyways. You must listen to me and do exactly as I say. The only way to defeat the demon is to trap him in the soul prism, that amulet there.”
Holding the amulet in his shaking hands, Glefanin begged, “Then I will do so now!”
“I could do so if I had my body…but now you must use my soul as a lens or else the demon will break free. My soul will hold him within and he will be trapped forever.”
“Quell…it will destroy you for good…” Glefanin realized.
“Not destroyed, but also trapped forever. If we do not do this, then countless more will suffer death and the demon will be able to drink what soul I have left. It must be done, my boy.” Quellcrist’s eyes closed and he hovered over the demon, ready.

Eyes full of tears, Glefanin held the amulet forward and a surge of light came forth, pulsed through Quellcrist and into the pile of rubble where the demon lay. The beam shuddered and turned red. The demon was lifted from the rubble, shrieking and howling. It was carried towards the amulet and passed through Quellcrist becoming colorless and the two simultaneously vanished into the soul prism. The crystal glowed for a moment, and he thought once again of his dream – of the great tiger eating a dark red star. Then the glow faded and so too did Glefanin’s consciousness.
* * *
The battle had been won and Glefanin was recovered by his knights some hours later. The gems vault was acquired and the power provided allowed Glefanin to protect the kingdom from further threats and to dedicate research of his scholars to studies of the dark arts. He thought one day he could find a way to separate Quellcrist’s soul from the demon’s prison without unleashing the evil within. He designated his coat of arms as the tiger and also a new constellation had been proclaimed by his astronomers to be celebrated – it was The Wise Mentor.
