Build your city!

Hi!
The new players usually don't know how to build their cities. Proper city build not make you powerfull. It'll make you strong enough to survive. There are few rules that shows how to build your city.

1. Forget the producting buldings!

I know their are so fancy but the true is their are useless. You need them only at start to build first army. Then you have to farm, farm and farm. Attacking a ruins and other players cities can produce a lot more income than produce buildings. 1000 stone per hour. It seems very inviting but you can stole a lot more. So... You build this buildings, get your army, and when you're ready to defeat first level ruins without loses you can destroy all produce buildings.

The only exception are golden cities. Cities on the Desert to produce gold. It makes sense only if you are knight with gold production bonus.

2. Keep it clear!
Not so clear... :(
Not so clear... :(
Just look at this city. Building after building. Yeah the one type building is next to another the same type but... Is it really clear? Sometimes you need to do an action very fast and it's impossible when you need to search the building you need. Besides when someone sees nice city he knows that its owner is experienced player.

That's much better!
That's much better!

Isn't it nicer than above one? You need to have a plan what you City should look like. So that's why u need...

3. You need calculator!
Yes. Ask yourself: 'What should my army looks like?' Then you know how many military buildings you need. Get the calculator and calculate. You have to know:
* How many time you need to train one soldier?
* How many people you need?
* How much resources can you steal?

You have an easy access all all of these informations. Just get into encyclopedy:

http://mlgame.us/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=TrainWarriors
You see? There is training time of warior. Just choose building you need to obtain training time of other units.

http://mlgame.us/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=UnitsParameters
And there you have resources needed to all units.

With this calculations you can calculate everything you wish (But this is subject for another tutorial ;) ). You know how many military buildings you need and you know how many houses you need.

4. Let them think!
When my friend started to play My Lands he said: "They are thinking! They are sitting in this fancy buildings, drinking beer and thinking how to open this ******* gate. I have to build more buildings so they have more beer!"

You have too. When you build laboratory in village you have 30% bonus to science points. Laboratory isn't expensive build so you can (and you should) build whole villages with laboratories. At early game you need only one Visionaires building and one mirros building. The rest are laboratories!

5. Defend yourself!
Another subject that can be moved into another tutorial. You have to build towers and fortifications. You will want to steal goods right? So who will defend your city? E.g.: on 3* you have to build 2 towers 3 level and 2 fortifications 3 level to feel save. Noone would attack to get so much sacrifice.

The true is that if someone want to get into your city he will get. So you should build only one counter spies building to defend from novice players. After early game you'll know if you want to get more protected.

This is first release of tutorial - it will be corrected soon :)

Nice 8-)
Only one thing, the gold cities are in the Desert. I know you know it, it's just a little mistake, but you should correct it ;)

HI, no images don`t need to be approved. You must have attached them the wrong way. You should upload them first (see box "Upload attachment")

And after the image has been uploaded, click the "Place inline" (the image will be placed exactly where the cursor was)

I can't agree with two things. The "clear city" looks better of course but it's not helpful. You're playing in your profile and with your cities so everything's easy to find no matter the order of the buildings. But your enemy could miss something if he hurry up so I think the first picture is better. The second one just looks like nice. :)
The last point is strange. To defend yourself you need 2 magic towers on 7th level, 3 fortifications on 5th level and one fort on 6th level. The two magic tower are effective when you have mercenaries and as a suzerain you must have much of them. The fortifications are for maximum defence. This is for the capital. The other cities could be protected different ways, it depends on what is their target.

Of course this all depends what stage of the game we're talking about and what the player's goal/play-style is.

Perhaps we should organize it more in that way and then offer advice.

1. It depends. When you start game you will always look for some buildings if they aren't ordered. And what if your clan mate wants to send you assistance and he can't find your towers?

2. I changed this sentence. I had in mind defense on 3'rd rank. As i said - defense is subject for another article.

It's good idea. I'll think about rebuilding this tut in such way.

My clan mate would calculate the battle without my tower(s) and we will win for sure. And if my enemy has calculated the battle without my tower(s) will be even better. ;)
I agree on the different levels you need different things. And it depends on your strategy of course so... yeah, the advices are just advices and sometimes they're completely wrong to someone's play-style.
But the defense in the capital by two magic towers and four fortifications is the most popular one and it's effective too especially if you have mercs.

If you just click on the Battle Calculator button ( you don't even have to have purchased calculations available ) you can immediately see what kinds of defenses are at the given domain, assuming you can see them with your spies.

True but if I can see towers in one look on the city I don't need to open calculator.

Are there good Research speeds a new player should be targetting?

Optimum order of things to research?

Appears I should make sure I have fortifications created and updated, and a hero before opening my gate?

Thanks

Friend, everything is much easier.
Open the gate, rob neighbors as your lvl.
ask ruins at neighbors who higher even you lvl,
send explorers to find ruins; foreign ownership; etc.
try to communicate more in the game ..

Join the clan - bairs for example.

in the first time you no need defence in the capital.
when you open gate in the capital - you can take rewards for 60 days- ancient protection.
and when it's end. you can take same revard for black gems.

in the other citys(not capital) need defence like

for 1* - 2 regular towers lvl 2.
for 2* - 2 regular towers lvl 3.
for 3* - 2 regular towers lvl 4.
for 4* - 2 regular towers lvl 5.
for 5* - 2 regular towers lvl 7.
