Hi,
I am returning after not playing for 3 years and i see that there are new heroes now. could anybody suggest which would be the best option for beginner.
initially i was thinking to clear ruins easily with builder since i plan to sit at 2* for a long time and change it to paladin, but now not sure if these new heroes would be better and can be used at end game as well.
best Hero for beginner
Re: best Hero for beginner
like beginner, I allways had a builder- a hero for sacrifice, i could tell
I used him until I grow up at 4 stars and I fire him
for the new heroes you must study a lot, you must pay pearls to finish the science
in my opinion, a paladin/warrior couldnt be replaced with any new hero in fight
you could look the encyclopaedia and analyse yourself before take a decision

Hello Terichi, welcome back.
The catch about the new Commander heroes is that you'll need LOTS of science/research completed before you can hire one.
Some of them are nice, but unfortunately you won't be able to get one for quite some time.
As for which of the rest of the heroes to start with, I'd like to give you my tips, but really it will come down to your play style and how active you are.
Strategist - best if you are active and hunting ruins and looking to get into combat a lot. Recommended Paladin/Warrior
Governor - Trader/Guru/Defender, recommended to have for all players, but also early if you are less active and play a more passive style. This hero will provide likes of passive value. Salary is a big "wall" for lots of smaller players and typically a Trader hero will be able to pay for their army's whole salary himself.
Wizard - NOT recommended as your first hero type, it gets most of its value from active spell casts and as a new player you'll not have the artifacts to feed your hero a healthy supply of mana and otherwise wizards lack good passive value and combat stats.

Re: best Hero for beginner
thank you for replies. what about the new heroes i.e. scientist to help with research seems good or is it not worth it?
but yes Paladin seems very good to help with ruins.

Re: best Hero for beginner
you need 20 million science points to hire one of the new hero commanders (and there are other sciences that would need to be studied first). for a beginning player it is not likely possible as a first hero unless you are willing to wait a long time before getting a hero. better to hire a strategist or governor so you have at least one hero gaining experience while you work your way up to, and through, the hero commander science
Re: best Hero for beginner
As Fairylite and I mentioned, you won't be able to get a Commander type hero anytime soon without some big science or miracles.terichi wrote:what about the new heroes i.e. scientist to help with research seems good or is it not worth it?
But to answer your question in my opinion:
Scientist - Probably the most value for a new/small player, the science is essentially another city's worth and can further improve research rates with spells. Also increases population growth which can be useful for construction and army growth.
The value has a steep drop off after Scientist...
Traveler - At second most value for small players since they can give instantly find ruins to hunt which is similar to exploring. The rest of the abilities have very niche value and even less for small players.
Hunter - 2 (arguably 3) of his 7 abilities are completely irrelevant for small players (they have to do with big ruins/Stonehenges). The increased resource gain and ability to find ruins after striking them can be beneficial. The magic find in ruins is going to be hard to sustain mana for and is more of a novelty.
Gladiator - Does little for small player for what they will be doing. Can act in a way as a quasi-paladin since he can cast bonus armor vs monsters...but not really the same purpose. Most of the gladiator's abilities are irrelevant to a small player.
Craftsman - As a new/small player, you'll get almost no benefit from this class except for summoning a free scroll every few days.

Re: best Hero for beginner
Thank you guys. yeah i sort of misread your initial message regarding commander type heroes. it is a bummer though scientist seemed to be so good but unfortunately new players can't get him
i guess i will go with Paladin once i reach 2*. also since i am returning player i don't think i can become a mentee another bummer

Re: best Hero for beginner
I think the rule for getting a mentor is you have to do it before your capital reaches level 5
Re: best Hero for beginner
if your ex mentor is still active, you cant have another mentor than him
but, yes, it could happend to have a mentor after you develop the principal building at 5 lvl. I dont know what are the terms, I know players who had the second mentor after the first deleted his account, even that player already had 4 cityes

Re: best Hero for beginner
Aside from what the actual rules are for mentoring, you can always have an unofficial mentor.
