What type of Hero should I start with. By type I mean strategist, governor, wizard, or whatever else.

It depends on your personal preferences. There is no right answer to this question. Study the hero classes here: http://mlgame.us/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=HeroClasses and pick the one you like the most.
