The Archruin of Black Hollow: The Tale of Manticora & Benek15
Few in MyLands ever live to speak of an Archruin—those ancient, half‑forgotten vaults where the world’s darkest magic pools like stagnant water. Fewer still ever find one. But fate has a way of weaving unlikely threads together.
Discovery of the Impossible
It began when Manticora, an elven ranger whose senses were as sharp as the moonlit edge of his blade, felt a tremor beneath the roots of the Whispering Forest. The earth itself seemed to whisper warnings in a tongue older than the elves. Following the signs, he uncovered a fissure in the ground—breathing cold air like the exhale of a buried titan.
Inside lay the impossible:
A ruin so ancient, so saturated with black gem energy, that even the stones hummed with power.
Manticora knew he could not face such a place alone.
So he sent word to the one ally whose courage matched his own:
Benek15, the undead warlord, a commander of bone and shadow whose presence chilled the air but steadied the battlefield.
The living and the unliving—an unlikely pair, but a formidable one.
Descent Into the Archruin
The ruin’s entrance yawned like the maw of a colossal beast. As they descended, torches sputtered against an unnatural wind. The walls were carved with runes that pulsed like veins, each beat echoing with the promise of untold riches… and unspeakable danger.
At the heart of the ruin lay the Black Hollow Vault, sealed by a gate of obsidian ribs fused together by magic.
The moment they approached, the ruin awakened.
The Battle Begins
From the darkness surged the first wave:
Gloomfang Spiders, their eyes glowing like dying embers, their legs clicking across the stone in a maddening rhythm.
Manticora moved first—an arrow loosed so swiftly it seemed to appear mid‑flight. It struck the lead spider between its cluster of eyes, dropping it instantly. He danced backward, firing again and again, each shot a whisper of death.
Benek15 stepped forward, raising his skeletal gauntlet.
A surge of necrotic energy rippled outward, turning several spiders to ash mid‑leap. Those that survived skittered toward him, only to be crushed beneath the sweep of his rune‑etched warhammer.
But the ruin was not done.
From the vault’s shadows rose the Archguardian—a towering abomination of fused bone, stone, and corrupted magic. Its roar shook dust from the ceiling.
The Final Clash
The Archguardian charged.
Manticora rolled aside, firing a volley of arrows that shattered harmlessly against its stone‑plated hide. Benek15 met the creature head‑on, his hammer glowing with sickly green light as he struck its knee, cracking the stone and forcing the beast to stagger.
“Break its core!” Manticora shouted, spotting a pulsing black gem embedded in the creature’s chest.
Benek15 nodded once.
He slammed his hammer into the ground, summoning a ring of skeletal hands that erupted from the floor, gripping the monster’s legs and holding it in place.
Manticora sprinted up a fallen pillar, leapt into the air, and—channeling every ounce of elven precision—drove an arrow straight into the exposed gem.
The ruin went silent.
The Archguardian shuddered… then collapsed into a heap of dust and shattered bone.
The Spoils of Victory
With the guardian defeated, the obsidian ribs of the vault cracked open. Inside lay piles of black gems, their glow illuminating the chamber like a constellation of dark stars.
The two heroes—one living, one undead—stood victorious.
They divided the treasure with honor, knowing that few in MyLands would ever believe such a tale… and fewer still would dare to attempt it themselves.
But legends have a way of spreading.
And the tale of Manticora and Benek15, slayers of the Archguardian of Black Hollow, would soon echo across the realms.
