Monsters revenge?

There always will be change: Some rulers retire while new ones appear. Friendships formed, treaties broken. Cities built and abandoned buildings crumbling. Monsters' fate is no exception.
Ildanen has sworn revenge. He's one of the most powerful monster heroes and in charge of a massive amount of dark minions. Every time he looks at Ontario's kingdom anger consumes him. Why can't it fell apart just like the other ones? Those big cities with perfect building, warehouses full of resources and a strong and experienced strategist...
It seems like everything wants to remind him of the failure that occurred 5 years ago. On 18/06/2015 the very same ruler defeated his biggest ruin of all that existed back then. Ildanen is blaming himself because he was away when it occurred. As he returned he only found dust, his ruin destroyed, no survivor, no gems left. He's always asking himself "How would it have been if i had been there to fight with my army?". The hero took his time to analyse the battlefield. The tracks on the ground were telling him where the enemy's warriors shielded the front line, where their cavalry rushed through resulting a loss of formation on the ruins side. His army had no chance without a commander's lead.
Ildanen is determined: Something has to change. Ontariomoderate getting stronger and stronger. And the stolen gems - HIS GEMS! - even helping him grow. I have to stop him until it's too late! The monster hero set up a plan to make an end to this ruler. It envisages a base in the centre of his kingdom, close enough for a quick attack but as far away as necessary to stay undetected. From there he will target Ontario's war hero and after that burn down every city of him to the ground.

The preparations are nearly done. Ildanen already occupied a ruin hidden in the forest a bit south of the ruler's capital and gave command to all monsters in the empire to meet here. He took care of everything. For this occasion Ildanen acquired the best gear possible - the ARCHMAGES's artefact set. Not as valuable but still worth a fortune: the black gems he brought. Everyone knows that powerful rituals need those and such an important battle can't miss their effects. Since the magic wears down over time, they are best to be used right before the battle. But tomorrow already, just when the reinforcement arrives, we will charge and crush our enemies...

Hero Matilda returned to Breslau, capital of the great kingdom, just to go out hunting again. She does this all day long, so the dropped off gold and other resources are already piling up in the warehouse. Will this go on forever? The female warrior enjoys her trips, there is nearly always something new to learn. Some days ago she found a small artefact between the rocks of an old ruin. When touching it she felt the magic energy flowing through her body. Of course she is wearing armour hardened by magic but it wasn't the same. What will await me this time?
Something interrupted the women's thoughts. She looks back to the city she left a few minutes ago and spots a messenger riding directly toward her on the flat field. The hero waited for his arrival and just a moment later he informed her that she should return immediately. Matilda follows the messenger back to Breslau right away. If Ontariomoderate calls her back, it must be important.
The hero met the ruler in his personal room. An explorer already was there and explained that he was checking the forest around the capital and found a weird, foggy place. Matilda asked: "You called me back because of fog?" He replied it was nothing like he had before. "I walked to the border of the thick fog, but didn't dare to enter. The atmosphere felt strange and i could sense danger. I'm glad i made it back to deliver the message." Ontariomoderate listened to his story a second time and instructed Matilda as he finished: "We should take this situation seriously. I trust that you take care of it. I suggest you visit the oracle first, maybe she can give us some information."

The oracle is an old women. She is neither a mage nor a visionary, but she definitely deals with supernatural effects. Matilda described the position of the suspicious place the same way the explorer did a moment ago and asks what she can tell about it. The oracle took some time to focus but then replied: "My mind has centred the object, but there is something hindering my contact. Definitely work of a magic protection..."; "But who did this? Can you find out anything?"; "Well, the effect blurs my vision, but it seems like it's a crowd of monsters."; "Monsters? Usually they aren't that powerful. Don't you need an experienced spell-caster for such high-tier magic, do you?"; "There he is, i see him now: The monster hero. He sticks out with his blue armour. It's a unique piece, i think it's the one from the ARCHMAGE himself..."

Do the monsters prepare to get her, Matilda? Am i strong enough to defeat him? The deceiving effect prevents to count how many warriors the monster leads and therefore making it impossible to predict the outcome. But the woman takes the faith in her hands, she will surprise those monsters.
Its quite convenient that she already was wearing artefacts suitable for monster fighting and the huge army in the capital is ready for action, so they lost no time and moved south through the forest. Matilda heads carefully but still swiftly through the woodland, with a million units following her. Time passes and the hero got more and more excited. How far away is it? She wasn't sure if something is slowing her down or if it's just a feeling that tricked her. Eventually the promised fog came into sight. They positioned at the border and prepared their weapons for the battle. Matilda hopes that the fog blocks the view from the inside as it does form her point of view. Her plan would be perfect if they can rush through it and circle the monsters base before they can react.

Ildanen knows that a ruin is not the best place for defence. The crumbled wall is no serious obstacle any more and would take way too long to rebuild. They just need to stay undetected for one more night, until everything is ready for the attack. The forest is big but one can't be too careful. He had cast a spell that created a wall of fog around the place, no one can see through it. In case an explorer decides to walk through it, our guard will spot him so we can get rid of him before anyone else notice something...
ml_fog.jpg
The monster guard raised alarm! Ildanen immediately got up and checked the border. Did an explorer already found us? But there was no explorer. What he saw were endless rows of warriors that stepped out of the fog and as they moved forward another one appeared behind it. He called his troops to the arms. It wouldn't take long until the enemy reach the base. Ildanen and his monsters just formed a line of defence and next the two forces clashed together. Both sides fought with full strength. Matilda encouraged the knights and Ildanen the monsters. Either party has fallen units which where replaced by one of the row behind, so the border remained the same. The monster hero is busy knocking out the knights around him as well as checking the situation on the battlefield. So far the are holding the defence line, but for how long? New enemies units are still pushing through the fog while the number of his warriors slowly but surely lowers. It's no use! He must have lost more than a half of his army already and the stream of knights does not want to end. Loosing everything here is not going to help either, so he came to the conclusion that a retreat is the best option. The monsters headed back south, the only way out of the semicircle of enemies.

Finally Matilda was able to push those monsters back. Quite long it seems like there was no progress at all... The enemy now moves backwards and the knights filled the gap right away. The female hero finishes of some more monsters on the way and soon reached the centre of the base. She slows down and watches the enemy flee, getting closer to the border of the fog. For a short moment the blue armour shine through the dark mass, next a deserted landscape is all one could see. The battle was over!

Matilda started to inspect the ruin. She directly found a chest, it seems like it was magically attracting her. The woman impatiently lifted the lid and revealed thousands of black gems. With this great treasure they took their way home and left no one behind. Quite some warriors got injured and felt back during fight but the chances are good that they will recover. Everyone was in a good mood and soon the story of this stunning victory spread all over the kingdom...
