Im new to the game, and I was wondering is there a general build people use for their first town. Like you should have around 10 farms total or 5 alchemist labs. Mostly this is to see how horrible my choices were. Thanks

NO, do not just fill it with labs and homes!!!

After playing this game for about a month or so now, I have many of the sciences up to where I need to build the military and defense buildings. They can only be built inside the castle walls and I need the space inside the walls for them. I am very disappointed that I have filled my walled-in area with buildings I could have upgraded to the maximum before I built more. I wish I would have known, or even KNEW to look to see what could or could not be built outside of the walls. You do need labs, but I would not suggest more than 5 or 6 once you have fully gotten your kingdom leveled up to 5. Just keep upgrading them. After that you can build a couple on the outside plots... but read on, okay?

Homes cannot be built outside of the castle walls, the merchant building either. Some of the towers can, but check the buildings menu. The terraformer is a good thing to use before you need it desperately (like I currently do) to build your defense buildings. It takes a few days to change the area into land you can build upon. It is not worth upgrading the terraformer either. Just wait it out. Use your resources to upgrade other buildings while you wait for the terraformer to do its job land to become available.

The labs, wood shops, mines (obviously, because some are outside of the walls) & trading posts are all things you can build either in the inside of your castle walls or the outside of them.

I would suggest upgrading the homes instead of building more, even though it is less "expensive" to build more. It saves your valuable space.

Always try to upgrade your producing buildings (mines, wood shops and windmills) whenever you can. Keep a warehouse, upgrade it before you need it. It would be absolutely wonderful if you could have it stockpiled! Especially, I hear, once you start building another city.

I scoured this forum for information before I got too far into the game to see what I could find out, and apparently the forum needs more people to just post stuff like this... To help people like you (and I, when I was new) so we do not have to learn the hard way. I have no problem passing on information and letting people hang on to my shirt-tails :)

I hope this information helps you, or at least other new people.

I'm sorry but a can't agree whit you Kuroo.

1. On beginning it's better to build more buildings than upgrade to high. It's cheaper and you always can destroy them when you need space. For example I have my cities full of labs lvl 2 and thanks to that I have income of science over 2000. And the science is in the beginning the most important. Cost of one lab to lvl 2 is 600 wood and 1100 stone. That's merely nothing.

2. Later in the game you discover that you don't need any of resource producing buildings because you steal enough. In the beginning from other players, who don't play anymore and later from ruins.

3. Only considerable option of production buildings is in gold city.

That's what I think.

It is good to see that someone else is posting their experience with how they start, or what worked/works for them.

If there were a place for suggestions on what to do for new people here in the forum, it would make life inside the "walls" a whole lot easier, rather than having to sit on your hands waiting for a mentor.

I wonder if we could start one? ***Things that make you go "hmmm"***

A lot of labs at the start. They are cheap and you can easy destroy yhem later to build something else.
A lot of houses - You need people to labs and make army. And again... They are cheap and you can destroy them to build something else.

You don't need resources buildings. Only at start to grow army. Then you can destroy them.

You have to calculate on your own how many houses do you need. You also have to build some tower or fortification to protect city from aggresive ruins. And expeditionary corps to search for ruins ;)

It's all about the science research. Early game, mid game, and late game. Of course once everything is almost researched then you may be able to tone it down a bit but literally military buildings and every other spare cell a lab.

That's my input.

I have found that early on when you have a small army without any healers to resurrect anyone, it's best to avoid ruins and just rob inactive players. Pick ones that don't have an army or fortifications(always be sure to check for those when you spy - it's burned me a few times when I forgot). You don't lose any units and get a lot more resources than producing them yourself. And you don't have to worry about retribution ;)
