How can a level 3 character attack a level 2 character?

Hi, I was recently attacked by another player, and I when I looked at his castle he was lvl 3. So I was wondering how he could have done that?
Hey,
its possible if he has a certain scroll and his castle is built at the square next to yours, OR most probable he was 2* when he attacked you and after the attacks his point got to lvl 3*, the attack will continue no mather he is 3 stars.
No other possibilities to attack lower rank player (except for outer domains you can attack no mather the lvl)
