By the way, what kinds of benefits a mentor will get? The Encyclopaedia doesn't elaborate.

There's 5 things a mentor needs an apprentice to accomplish to Graduate them.
I'll list the task and the reward the mentor gets upon completion:

( I don't currently remember them all, so we can fill them in when we get the answer )
Mine Seizure - Scroll of Level 4
Suzerain Rank - ?
Capital Architecture Change - Possibility to attack Ruins of all ranks for 12 hours
Robbery - +250 science/hour for 7 days
Destroy a Ruin of Level 5 - ?

Then, there are actual quest log Quests that give Mentors rewards for Graduating apprentices, presumably increasing.
