black gems - do i HAVE to buy them?

It doesn't look like I NEED to buy the black gems right now. From what I am seeing it looks like there are alternative ways to get them although, they do take tons longer. Does anyone know if this is correct.

Im just wondering if these are something I will HAVE to buy one way or the other as the game progresses.

I was wondering the same thing. I have been playing for a few days and i am now almost out of the black gems and I dont know how to get more

There are a number of ways to get Black Gems...

1) Buy them!
2) Attack ruins and they will give you BG as a reward..the level of the ruin does not necessarily relate to the amount of BG you get, however, so a level 1 ruin could give you 20BG whilst a level 5 or 6 ruin could just give you 1 or 2 BG
3) Find a salt lake and capture it (must have researched the outer domain science and have a free slot...may be worth giving up your mine or pit if you find one of these and then just recapturing you pit afterwards...the salt lake gives 20BG per hour and lasts a few weeks

1* ruin has max 5 BG in it
2* has max 10 BG
3* has max 15 BG
4* has max 20 BG
5* has max 25 BG
6* is till 100 + BG
and so on..
