Advise on choosing first Hero

I have option of governor = trader, or wizard necromancer

From these two I would choose the necromancer. Slaves and mercs capture is very useful

I ended up choosing governor/builder - thinking the attack buff will help me take ruins better and helps my building go faster. We will see how long I last as gov/builder.
